: Thiruvidaimaruthur temple is located near the banks of the Cauvery River in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the twelve revered shrines known as the "Divya Desams" altar of Vishnu. The temple is believed to be the site where Shiva performed his Cosmic Dance. The temple is also known by other names such as Thiruvidaimarudhu Araiyar Sevai, Thiruvidaimarudur Isvaram, Thiruvidaimarudur Kshetram and Thiruvidaimarudur Perumal Kshetram. The main deity of the temple is Shiva in his form of Dandapani on a bull mount. Other deities enshrined in the temple are Nataraja, Karthikeya or Subramanya, Ganapathy, Rama and Thayaar – Parvati, also known as Umadevi. The temple is believed to have been built in 7th century AD by the saint-poet Thirugnanasambandar and was later expanded by the Nayak rulers.
