Nellaiappar Temple is one of the most significant temples in India. It is located in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its unique form of worship. Nellaiappar Temple has three different timings for its worship and these are Nityakalyana Sankalpam, Bhramotsavam and Jayanthi Utsavam. Nityakalyana Sankalpam is carried out in the morning and evening with the offerings of flowers, fruits, milk etc. to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. The offerings are placed to Nandikeswara, the guardian deity of the holy temple. This is followed up by deeparaadhanam, Abhishekam, alankara and dhooparadhanam. Bhramotsavam is conducted in the evening which consists of Abhishekam and pooja. This is done to invoke divine blessings upon devotees and to protect them from evil forces. Jayanthi Utsavam is celebrated usually in the month of Aadi (July-August). It marks the birth celebration of Lord Shiva. The main attraction during Jayanthi Utsavam is the garland festival and flag hosting on top of the temple. Apart from this, special poojas and aradhanas are conducted on the day.
