The Thirunallar Temple in Karaikal, Tamil Nadu, is renowned for its daily poojas, which are conducted in accordance with the ancient Pancharatra Agama. The temple follows a very strict schedule for its various rituals, which includes various vedic mantras, Ganapati Homa, Abhishekams and more. The morning poojas begin with Suprabhatham, a Vedic prayer chanted at sunrise. This is then followed by Panchabhoota Abhishekam, where water from five holy rivers is poured on the Lord Shanmukha (Lord Shiva). The next ritual isthe Ganapati Homa, a sacred fire ritual dedicated to Lord Ganesh. After the poojas for the Lord, the priest proceeds to offer Abhishekams to the other icon in the inner sanctum, Lord Nataraja, and then to Lord Varaha Murthy and Lord Ellamman. The evening pooja begins with Navagraha Pooja. This is followed by Utsava Pooja and Akshara Archanai. Special poojas like Punyavachanam, Kaala Shanthi Pooja and Bhumi Pooja are also conducted the same night. The temple is also known for its eight-day annual festival known as the Arudra Darisanam.
