, is a very ancient temple dedicated to Lord Murugan (also known as Kartikeya and Subramanya). It is located 8 km south of Madurai. This temple is one of the major Arupadaiveedu (Six Abodes of Murugan) and is depicted as the second important abode. This temple dates back to 2nd century A.D. and is believed to have been built during the reign of Pandya Kings. It is believed that Lord Murugan was married to Deivanai at this temple and hence this was known as the ‘Marriage Place of Murugan’. The ‘Garuda Mandapam’ of this temple is the oldest among all the existing Arupadaiveedu. Parvathi and Valli, the consorts of Lord Murugan appear on either sides of the ‘Gopuram’ as it is situated in the center of the town.
