Kumaran Kundram Murugan Temple of Kundrathur in Tamil Nadu has a unique worship method based on the tradition of Skanda Purana. The temple follows the traditional procedure of ‘Tirukkattama’ where devotees anoint the Shivalinga and sandalwood paste. All the rituals of worshipping Lord Muruga are done by an experienced priest in the temple. The daily puja includes 14 steps starting with Ganga snanam (ablution) and chanting of Vedic slokas. The priest performs the poojas for the deities placed on the sanctum sanctorum like Maha Ganapathi, Sri Rama, Anijaneya, Vinayaka, Saraswathi etc. Afterwards the famous archana (paying homage) is performed with mantras followed by Nithya Pooja (offering flowers, fruits, incense etc). The temple also has the special Arul Vazhi Pooja where mango leaves, Pooja items and fruits are offered to the deity. The temple also conducts special poojas on special occasions like Navaratri and Karthigai Deepam.
