Worship Method:
The temple worship at Tiruchendur Murugan Temple is conducted in the traditional South Indian style, according to the Agama Shastra. During the daily morning pooja, aarathi is done followed with chanting of mantras and psalms from the Tamil Panchamurtha Kavacham, Skanda Purana, and other works. Thereafter, Abhishekam (tāḷa peeṭṭu) and special poojas are performed to the deity using a variety of items including milk, yogurt, honey and fruits such as banana, mango, and jackfruit. The main poojas are performed three times a day: morning pooja (Ucha Kaala Pooja), noon pooja (Madhyana Pooja), and evening pooja (Sayaratcha Pooja). On each of these occasions, aarthee and the offering of fruit, flowers, incense and camphor are made. On festive days such as Chithirai (April-May) and Thirukarathzha (August), special pujas are conducted. Nivedyam (offerings) such as panchamritam, banana, coconut, jaggery, and sandalwood, and flowers like jasmine, lotus, and marigold are offered to the deity. The temple also offers various special pujas on different days throughout the year. These include Gundal Thara Pooja (Monday), Karthikai Thousand Pooja (full moon day in the Tamil month Karthigai, Dec-Jan), Kartikai Vilakku Pooja (full moon day of the same month, Dec-Jan), and Thirukarthikai Vilakku Pooja (full moon day of the same month, Dec-Jan).
