Kuzhagar Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu god Murugan. The temple is located in Tirupparankundram, 6 km south-west of Madurai and is one of the six important sites of Murugan. It is believed that the mythological Soorasamharam (war between the forces of good and evil) was fought here. The principal deity of this temple is Lord Murugan or Subrahmanya, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The worship method in Kuzhagar Temple is based on the guidelines set down in the Agama Shastras or ancient Vedic texts. The temple priests follow strict guidelines with regard to the rituals performed here.
