The Al Suwayq East North Mosque is situated in the governorate of Al Suwayq, in the northern part of the Governorate of Al Batinah, in the Sultanate of Oman. The mosque was constructed in the year 1410 AH, with the funding provided by Sayyid Ja’afar bin Sa’eed bin Ali Al Buraimi and his sons. The mosque was initially constructed on top of a hill, thus the name ‘East North’. It is a shrine and celebrated as a holy sight. The mosque is also known for its distinct architecture. It features a squared plan, with four symmetrical façades. Inside, it is an open courtyard, with three arches on the walls, each with a distinctive style. The mosque is surrounded by five Nubian columns, on the outside, resembling the early Islamic style mosques of Al Mutawa. Architecture:

The Al Suwayq East North Mosque in Oman is a modern mosque designed by the firm Asad Developments. The structure has a total area of approximately 250,000 square meters, and consists of a large central mosque which houses the main prayer hall, a prayer hall for men, a separate smaller hall for women, as well as service areas and other peripheral facilities. The main prayer hall features a rectangular shaped roof and three arches along the longitudinal side. The central area is unified through the use of timber ribs patterned to form wave-like formations. For the main entrance, a grand diwan is featured, as well as a central fountain and of course, a traditional minaret. The mosque exterior appears to be covered in rough boulders from the surroundings, which gives the structure a sense of raw beauty. The central dome is created of a combination of metal and glass to give a sense contrast. The design approach to the mosque has used the local environment as its source of inspiration. The boulder walls that cover the exterior of the mosque are designed to resemble the mountains that surround the building, and the main dome of the mosque has been designed to the profile of a traditional mountain peak. Inside the mosque, the timber ribs in the ceiling follow the natural flow of the wadi nearby, and the water used for ablution is drawn from the same wadi. The overall design provides a contemporary look and feel but at the same time still preserve the traditional elements of Omani architecture.
