Brief History:
Al Khadra Mosque is one of the most historic mosques in the sultanate of Oman. Located in the heart of the Old Town of Muscat, the mosque was built in 1401 by Sultan Ibn Badr Al Noaimi. It is the oldest existing mosque in the country and an important site of worship for the citizens of Muscat. The mosque has two minarets and a beautiful dome, and is reminiscent of traditional Arabic architecture. It is an important part of Oman’s Islamic heritage and one of the most visited tourist spots in Muscat. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The architecture of Al Khadra Mosque is of the traditional Omani style of mosque architecture, which features a large central dome and two smaller flanking domes. The outer facade is adorned with white and blue tiles, giving the mosque a distinctively elegant appearance. The interior features multiple columns and ornate arches as well as an impressive mihrab that faces towards Mecca. Inside the main chamber, one can observe the intricate wall carvings and paintings that adorn the walls, all of which are in keeping with the traditional Omani and Islamic design ethos. The main prayer hall has been extended by two outdoor courtyards, which provide extra space for worshippers. In addition, the mosque has a minaret, from which the call to prayer is broadcast. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

Al Khadra Mosque is located in the city of Buraimi in the Al Buraimi Governorate, Oman. By Car: The mosque is about 1-hour and 22 minutes from Muscat. By Bus: There are regular bus services from Muscat to Buraimi. The trip takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. By Air: The nearest airport to Al Khadra Mosque is Muscat International Airport, which is located about 1-hour and 27 minutes away.
