Brief History:

Al Qabil North East Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Oman. It was built in the 8th century, during the Islamic expansion. The mosque was restored in the 17th century, and is now located in a residential area in the north-eastern part of Muscat, close to the airport. The mosque features a large dome and four minarets. Inside, there is a main prayer hall, a central mihrab, and four separate prayer alcoves. It is open to visitors for guided tours. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.

Architecture:

The mosque is located in the Seeb district of Oman and was launched by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id in 2008. It boasts a modern, contemporary design, crafted with a combination of traditional and modern influences. The mosque is constructed with Omani-style architecture, and features a blend of yellow stones and white-plastered walls, which reflect the surrounding environment. Both the minaret and dome are also covered in white-plastered walls and the interior dome is adorned with both Arabic and English verses of the Noble Quran, further highlighting the eclecticism of the design. The courtyard of the mosque is surrounded by columns and arches, echoing the atmosphere of traditional Islamic architecture. The prayer hall is filled with natural light due to strategically placed skylights, which adds to the airy ambiance. The inside of the mosque is an elaborate maze of intricate paths, curves, and intricate tiles, making for a visually pleasing journey through the interior of the building. As with many mosques, there is a separate space dedicated to women, with a prayer mat, a writing desk, and a number of study bookshelves where they can learn about Islamic teachings.
