Brief History:
: This is the second largest mosque in Oman after Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat. It was constructed in 1999 over an area of 1,000 sq.m and is located in Al Ma'awil area of North Central Governorate. The mosque is beautifully decorated with Islamic calligraphy and arabesque patterned tiles. It is equipped with marble floors, wooden doors, large grills, sun-roofs, and an impressive prayer platform. It is also home to many religious ceremonies and programs, such as Friday Prayers and lectures from scholars. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
Al Ma'awil North Central Mosque is a traditional masjid constructed in the Al Khoudh area in the Sultanate of Oman. The mosque is composed of two wings joined by a central dome-shaped section. The facade of the northern wing is made up of two doors placed opposite each other, while the southern wing has three doors. The minaret is located at the northwestern corner and is a monumental structure composed of alternating layers of stone and brickwork. The main prayer hall is a large open space with a vaulted ceiling and two rows of carved wooden columns supporting the roof. The walls are white-washed and decorated with arabesques and floral motifs. The mosque also contains a library and classrooms for religious study. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
