Brief History:

Al Mawaleh East Mosque, which is located in Al Mawaleh East, is a prominent religious site in the country and is considered to be among the oldest mosques in Oman. The facility was established by the Wali Ahd bin Said al Qasemi in 1645 AD (1056 AH) and began its operations in 1646 AD (1057 AH). It was built on a rocky outcrop and was placed strategically so as to be visible from miles around. It has a very wide prayer hall, and is also referred to as the 'biggest mosque in Oman'. The mosque is not only home to a variety of spiritual worship services but also to many secular activities such as lectures, debates, lectures on religious topics, religious events, and special prayers. Its exterior is decorated with Islamic artwork, upon which the main entrance and the mosque's columns are painted with verses of the Quran. The interior includes an intricately designed mihrab (a praying niche) and a qibla wall (a wall located towards the direction of the holy temple Kaaba). A new tower has been added to the right side of the mosque as a symbol of the modernisation of the religious building.
