Al Batinah East Mosque, also known as The Grand Mosque of Sohar, is a modern mosque in the coastal city of Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman. Constructed in 2016, this large mosque is ornately decorated and features a unique blue-coloured dome. The dome is made from a special reinforced steel structure that allows the building to resist earthquakes up to eight on the Richter scale. The mosque has a large capacity of 10,000 worshippers and can accommodate up to 5,700 worshippers during the night prayer. The mosque features several facilities such as restrooms, air-conditioned prayer areas and study rooms. The mosque has two towers, a minaret and a dome which rises to 45m. There is also a library located within the mosque. The building also contains a multi-purpose hall, special prayer areas for the disabled, and segregated areas for men and women. The mosque’s exterior is constructed almost entirely from local materials and features intricate natural stone details.
