The historical Al Mudhaireb South Mosque of Muscat, Oman, was constructed at the end of the sixteenth century by Sayyid Jamaluddin bin Saeed al Mudhaireb. It is one of the oldest and most revered mosques in the country and is a symbol of unity and faith between the people of Omani. This mosque is a great example of Omani Islamic architecture, housing a prayer hall, a minbar, and a Quranic school. It has been a major place for worship and a host of religious activities throughout Oman's history. The mosque is seen as a significant Islamic monument and is believed to be the birthplace of Omani religious reform movements. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al Mudhaireb South Mosque in Oman is a modern mosque complex built in 2010 and completed in 2014. The mosque’s architecture is inspired by traditional Islamic principles and combines both old and new elements of traditional Omani Islamic architecture. The mosque features a tall, white minaret (tower) with a dome on top, as well as two towers that flank the building. Furthermore, the building features several arched entranceways, a decorative ablution area to cleanse before prayer, and a spacious prayer hall which includes traditional Islamic inscriptions on the walls. The interior walls of the prayer hall are adorned with Islamic geometric patterns and vibrant Islamic calligraphy. The exterior of the building is covered in traditional Morocco terra cotta tiles, which represent the old-style of Islamic architecture. Additionally, the mosque features two courtyards that allow for more natural light and air to flow freely.
