Holy Spirit Church was founded in 1965, following the creation of the Austin Diocese in 1960. It was the first Catholic parish in South Austin and began in a local elementary school, with Father Tom McDonnell as the first pastor. During the 80's, the church was expanded to become the current structure with its distinctive Victorian steeple. Father Donald O'Connor succeeded Father McDonnell as pastor in 2002 and served in that role until his retirement in 2015.
