Tomb of Malik Ibrahim Bayu Overview
The Tomb of Malik Ibrahim Bayu is located in the city of Malacca, Malaysia. It is the 18th century mausoleum of the Malay ruler, Sultan Mahmud Syah I. Built in the 15th century, the tomb is surrounded by a 4-5 feet tall brick wall, complete with a series of stepped pyramids at the entrance.
Prominent Features
The tomb is built of yellow stones called Kenggal and is composed of two components: the main tomb with a gabled roof and a smaller roofed annex. A marble stair case leads to the roof of the main building, which is built over a raised platform. The simple architecture is reminiscent of the Islamic style of the 17th century. Inside, the walls and ceiling of the main chamber are ornamented with woodcarvings, while the annex features masonry columns and windowpanes, along with the remains of two tombs of slaves.

The tomb was built in the 15th century for Sultan Mahmud Syah I, though the exact date is unknown. In the 19th century, it was renovated, and the roof was replaced. In 1905, the Dutch demolished part of the tomb in an effort to restore the area.
