Agatheswarswami Temple is one of the oldest temples in the state of Tamil Nadu. According to legend, Agathesvarar was worshipped by King Thiyagaraja for over 1000 years and was believed to be his guardian deity. In the seventh century, the temple was renovated in Chalukyan style.
