Brief History:

The Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kolar is an important Sufi shrine and pilgrimage site in India. The shrine stands atop a hill and is surrounded by a sprawling complex of buildings and courtyards. The Mughal-style architecture of the complex is said to date back to the reign of Shah Jahan (1592-1666). The imposing two-storey building is built of red sandstone and decorated with beautiful engravings and carvings. Inside, visitors can find a number of prayer chambers, halls and tombs. The complex is also home to a large collection of Sufi literature and manuscripts. Other religious sites within the complex include several mosques, a library, a medressa and a mausoleum.
