Brief History:
is the dargah or shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz Gesu Daraz, who is one of the prominent Sufi saints of India. He was born in 1238 in a village located on the shore of the lake located in the city of Kolar in Karnataka. Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz is known for his love of and devotion to Prophet Muhammad. He was the spiritual guide to many rulers including the Mysore Wodeyars, Chalukyas and Cholas. The dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz is a revered place of pilgrimage for the Shia Muslims of India. The dargah is located on the western side of the city of Kolar and receives thousands of devotees from various parts of the country. The dargah complex consists of a main building and smaller structures dedicated to the saint. The complex includes a mosque, a library, a guest house, a social welfare block, a samakhana and gardens. The dargah also houses the tomb of Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Hazrat Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah in Kolar is an important Sufi shrine and pilgrimage site in India. The shrine stands atop a hill and is surrounded by a sprawling complex of buildings and courtyards. The Mughal-style architecture of the complex is said to date back to the reign of Shah Jahan (1592-1666). The imposing two-storey building is built of red sandstone and decorated with beautiful engravings and carvings. Inside, visitors can find a number of prayer chambers, halls and tombs. The complex is also home to a large collection of Sufi literature and manuscripts. Other religious sites within the complex include several mosques, a library, a medressa and a mausoleum. Surrounding the complex is a beautifully landscaped garden with ponds and fountains. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
