Overview:
The Tomb of Capt. Mac is a historic graveyard located near the town of Saumur in Maine, USA. It is named after Capt. Matthew Macomber, who served in the American Revolution. The Tomb of Capt. Mac is a poignant reminder of the sacrifice made by Capt. Macomber during the Revolutionary War. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The tomb is made of granite and is well preserved. There is an inscription that honors Capt. Macomber, which reads: “Sacred to the memory of Capt. MAC. Who fell bravely fighting for liberty and Independence.” A bronze plaque is also attached to the tomb which reads: “Matthew Macomber died 1777 aged 40 years”. The Tomb of Capt. Mac is the oldest American Revolutionary War cemetery still maintained in the country. In addition, it was the first military cemetery to be recognized by the United States government.
