: The Shahi Masjid or theGolden Mosque, is one of the oldest mosques in the Sonepat district of Haryana, India. Built in the year 1622, the mosque was originally built to serve the large Jats population who lived in the area at the time. The mosque was constructed under the rule of Sultan Feroz Shah Kotla and is also called the Chowk Masjid. The architecture of the mosque draws inspiration from Mughal architecture and is known for its intricate carvings and remarkable details. The Shahi Masjid of Sonipat is an eight-sided structure built in the traditional Mughal style with an inner and outer court. The masjid was built by Feroze Shah Tughluq in 1354 AD. The exterior is made of yellow sandstone, while the central dome and upper walls are decorated with intricate designs. The courtyard is excellently laid out and includes a beautiful fountain. Inside the mosque are one large and two smaller prayer halls as well as a library and a doorway. The corridors leading to the prayer areas are decorated with stucco work and inscriptions.
