Shahi Masjid Darbhanga is a grand mosque situated in the city of Darbhanga. Originally it was built in 17th century by the Mughal governor Nawab Faiyaz Khan, who was the hero of Mughal ruler Emperor Aurangzeb’s conquest in Bengal. It is said that Emperor Aurangzeb himself laid the foundation stone of the mosque in Darbhanga. It is a two-storeyed mosque located near the Darbhanga fort. It stands 130 feet high and is made with red bricks and is surrounded by several beautiful gardens. The mosque has a large courtyard, two minarets, a piercing dome in the middle and three gates. The mosque attracts many from different faiths from all over India. It is also a recognised place of worship for both Muslims and Hindus and is also listed under the important Islamic monuments in India.
