Brief History:

The historic mosque of Rajkot, Masjid Ghausia or Ghouse Azam or Juma Masjid is believed to be one of the oldest in Gujarat. It is located in the area known as Salmara in the city of Rajkot. The construction of the mosque is said to date back to the 14th century AD and was originally built by Salim Abdul Wajid. The mosque underwent restoration some 700 years later during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque features an expansive courtyard with two minarets built on either side of the entrance and a 25-meter tall dome at its center. The gate of the mosque is decorated with lavish carvings and gothic designs, while the ceiling of the interior hall is decorated with intricate geometric patterns. It is believed to be one of the finest examples of Rajput-Mughal architectural blending in India.
