Overview:
fe Hall is a grand Victorian-era building located in the heart of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a four-storeyed structure built in the Indo-Saracenic style. It was built in 1881 in honour of Sir George coulick, who was the erstwhile gevernment agent of Oudh. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Metcalfe Hall serves as a synthesis of British and Indian architecture, combining features of both Mughal and British styles. The concave, domed roof with an ornate pinnacle and central dome is a perfect example of British architecture. On the other hand, the four minarets and two cupolas are of Mughal influence. The ornamentalities adorning the main entrance include finely carved jaalis around the doorway, coupled with screens enveloping windows, all of which is indicative of Rajput architecture.
