Overview:
Kardmeshwar Mahadeva Mandir is one of the most important temples belonging to the Hindu pantheon and is located in Ardhanareshwar, in India's Maharashtra state. The temple is dedicated to one of the most revered forms of the Hindu deity Shiva, in the form of Mahadeva. The temple is believed to be about 500 to 1000 years old, making it one of the oldest temples in the state. It is believed to be the only temple which is dedicated to Mahadeva in the entire Deccan region. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
It is a beautiful temple, with a unique blend of old and new architecture. The majestic sanctum sanctorum houses the famous Shivalinga (sacred stone), which is believed to have been placed by Lord Somnath Himself. The area around the Shivalinga is decorated with yellow cloth, flowers, and lamps. The walls of the temple are adorned with beautiful paintings depicting various events from Hindu mythology. The original temple is believed to have been built by King Yudjamun of the Hindu dynasty. He had ordered the temple to be built to conduct religious rituals in order to appease Lord Shiva, who was angry at the king’s refusal to give him his daughter’s hand in marriage. The original temple was almost destroyed during the Mughal period, but was later renovated in the late 19th century.
