Overview:
Hill fort, Rayakkottai is situated near the village of Rayakottai in the Eastern Ghats region of Tamil Nadu, India. It is an 11th century fort and is still in fairly good condition. It was the stronghold of the Dharmapuri taluk and is believed to have been built by King Kongu Raja Maravarman. It is also known for its large and beautiful fields, gardens and ponds. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Hill Fort, Rayakkottai has a fortified wall measuring approximately 844 feet in length. The walls and entrance are made of granite. There are two entrance towers that are flanked by majestic looking battlements. There are four corners of the fort that are also fortified. Inside the fort there is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. • Hill Fort, Rayakkottai is one of the few forts in Tamil Nadu that is still in a good condition. • It is situated amidst lush green fields and is surrounded by lush green paddy fields. • Inside the fort there is a masonry propylon which is an impressive architectural feature that is unique to Rayakottai. • In 2014 the fort was declared a protected monument by the Government of Tamil Nadu.Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
