Sikh War Memorial, Ferozeshah is an important historical structure in India. It stands as a reminder of the tragic Battle of Ferozeshah that was fought in 1845 between the English and the Sikhs. The Memorial is located in the South Western part of Ferozepur in Punjab. It was constructed in memory of the brave British and Indian soldiers, who sacrificed their lives for the British Empire, in memory of the dead. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Memorial is built as a Gothic dome on top of a high column which rises to 80 feet. The structure contains a gallery with various chronicles on the martyrs of the war and their families who have been bearing the brunt of the war in one way or the other. There is a huge Cannon nearby with an inscription denoting the origin. The Cannon was originally used in the Battle of Ferozeshah. The Memorial houses photographs of the fallen Sikh, British and Indian soldiers. There is also a Sikh Martyrs Gallery and a Flag Tower dedicated to the martyrs of the Anglo Sikh War that was constructed in 1863.
