Gate is a prominent monument situated at the entrance of the historic walled city of Old Delhi. It is located at the junction of Netaji Subhash Marg and Chandni Chowk, making it a great spot for sightseeing. The gate is also an important landmark in India’s struggle for independence. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Delhi Gate is very imposing in look and it stands tall with a grand archway at the top. It has walls made of red sandstone and it has two guardrooms built on either side. • Delhi Gate was a witness to the massacre of Kashmiri Pundits and the refugee influx during the Partition of India in 1947. • The gate has been featured in some of the most famous Bollywood movies such as Guide, Sholay and Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. • An inscription of historical verses that was written in Persian at the entrance was also added by the British. • It was also used as a backdrop to President Obama’s visit to India in 2015.Visit one of the famous monuments of India with your friends and family.
