Karneswar Mahadev is a temple dedicated to the Hindu Deity Lord Shiva and is considered to be one of the most important Shakti Peethas in India. It is situated at the bottom of Soni Dhara Hill in the Jhalamand Tehsil of Chittorgarh District in Rajasthan. Karneswar Mahadev This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is unique in many ways. It is one of the most revered Shiva temples in Rajasthan and is visited by devotees from all parts of the country. The temple complex consists of various shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. There are also several artistic and beautiful sculptures of Lord Shiva in various forms. One of the historical monuments of India,it tells the story of a bygone era.
It is believed that during the ancient times, the temple was referred to as ‘Purnagiri’, but now it is known as Karneswar Mahadev. According to the legend, it is believed that Lord Shiva killed the demon king Jalandhar at this site. There is a beautiful lake nearby known as ‘Kashivishwaram Mahadev’ which is said to be the site of the battle between Lord Shiva and the demon king. Karneswar Mahadev
