The Brahmanical Rock Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is an important monument of the Pallava Empire. It was built by Pallava King Narsimhavarman I sometime in the mid 7th century. The temple is located between the Shore Temple and the Arjuna's Penance and is one of the five Shore Temples of Mahabalipuram. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.

History:

The most prominent feature of the temple is the 16 rock - cut monolithic columns that support the rock temple. These columns depict various Hindu gods like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, as well as Nataraja and Mahishasuramardini. The stone inscribed with a quoit measuring 5.1 meters also stands out, in addition to an image of Shiva representing Upamurthi, one of the five forms of the god.
