Overview:
nnon, Arcot is a historic fortification built in the late 17th century to protect the city of Arcot, India from invading forces. The fort was first built in 1675 AD and has been in continuous use since then. It has served both defensive and offensive purposes, with its guns mounted to protect the city and to bombard the rival powers of the Carnatic Wars. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Cannon, Arcot is composed of limestone blocks, two lines of walls, lath and tropical timber, moss, and cannon fortifications. There are several cannons of different size and calibers, from the small bombards up to the largest carronades. The fortification also consists of a single entrance, one walled courtyard and mandapams. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
