The Dutch Memorial monument of Susan Anna Maria, also known as Anna Maria Memorial, is a historical monument in the North Holland village of Noordwijk. It is dedicated to the memory of Susan Anna Maria, a young woman from Noordwijk who was the first Dutch citizen to fall victim to the Napoleonic wars in 1792. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The monument is a fine example of Dutch art and architecture, with a sturdy stone base, a pine cone-shaped crypt, and neo-Gothic ornaments on the stone walls. It stands in front of the Noordwijk church, on the site of the former village prison. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
Susan Anna Maria was only 19 years old when she was killed during the Sea Battle of Texel in the North Sea. In memory of her courage and sacrifice, her remains were buried in Noordwijk with military honours.
