Harshnath Temple Overview Harshnath Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva situated in the Kitabgarh, a village in the Thanesar tehsil of Kurukshetra district in the Indian state of Haryana. Located close to the banks of the ancient Saraswati River, this temple is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the area and attracts thousands of devotees from all around. Prominent Features The sanctum sanctorum of the temple houses a self-made 'Linglyling' Shivlingam of black stone, which is about one meter in height. A separate shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha is located right outside the main gate and the idol is believed to have been installed by the Pandavas. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Parmeshwar (Vishnu) and the Navgrah (nine planets) is situated behind this shrine. Harshnath Temple History According to a local legend, the temple was established by the Pandavas around 5000 years ago to commemorate their victory in the Mahabharata war. It is believed that the Pandavas spent some time here, during their exile and decided to build this temple to commemorate that episode.
