Overview:
Gomateshvara, also known as Bahubali, is an iconic statue located in Karnataka, India. This monolithic jain statue stands an astounding 57 ft tall and is carved from a single granite rock. The statue showcases a Jain concept of renunciation and the selflessness of a Jain monk. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Gomatesvara statue is one of the largest monolithic statues in the world, and is historically and culturally significant to the Jain and Hindu communities. The statue stands on a platform which is embellished with various figures, including an elephant, four armed goddesses and scenes from Jain mythology. The statue itself is adorned with decorations and jewelery, and is topped by an umbrella known as Garuda. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The Gomatesvara statue is believed to be the first jain monument in the world to appear in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Every 12 years, the statue is cleansed with over 100,000 liters of water and milk.
