Overview:
Bandi or Poti ka Gumbad III-280 is a 12th-century monument located in Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by the Paramara rulers to commemorate their victory in the region. The monument stands on an elevated platform, measuring 27 metres (89 feet) tall, and consists of a single walled gate with a parapet wall and two gateways each with a dome. The roof is supported by four stone pillars in each corner. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of Bandi or Poti ka Gumbad III-280 is its dome. This single dome, intricately carved in stones, is the most recognizable feature of this monument. The dome is crowned by a finial, making it stand out even further. The walls of the monument is also decorated with sculptures and designs from the Paramara era. There is also a nearby pond within the complex grounds, which is believed to be the remains preserved of an ancient reservoir. The name "Gumbad" literally translates to "dome" in local dialect. This monument was constructed to commemorate the victory of the local Paramara rulers over the invading armies.
