Overview:
Dharmashala in the compound of Hoshang’s Tomb is an ancient site located on the outskirts of present-day Mandu, India. It is a well-preserved example of a 15th-century Muslim tomb, built by the rulers of the Malwa Sultanate, that once served as the capital of the famous ruler, Sultan Hoshang Shah. The complex consists of a series of tombs, shrines, mosques, and other structures surrounded by a high defensive wall. The most prominent feature of this site is the Dharmashala, which is a beautiful private mosque and pavilion reserved for royal worship. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Dharmashala in the compound of Hoshang's Tomb is a unique and impressive structure in Mandu. It is an imposing pavilion that is surrounded by a small courtyard and divided into two separate chambers by an intricate doorway. The first chamber is the main chamber which includes a decorated prayer platform, a wooden pulpit and a waist-high wooden railing. The other chamber is an inner sanctum, which is accessible from the main chamber only by a small doorway. This inner sanctum houses a holy shrine and is adorned with delicate carvings and ornamented with colored glasswork. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

Dharmashala in the compound of Hoshang’s Tomb was built in the 15th century by the Sultan of Malwa, Hoshang Shah. The original structure is much larger than the current one and consists of a mosque, the actual pavilion, and several other buildings. The entire complex is surrounded by a massive defensive wall. The pavilion was a private place of prayer used exclusively by the sultan and his entourage. It is believed to have been a place of great spiritual significance to Hoshang Shah.
