Brief History:
: Badi Masjid is an old mosque located in the city of Jammu in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is believed to be the first mosque built in Jammu and is more than four centuries old. The architecture of the mosque is typical of the Mughal style, with two towering minarets flanking its entrance and names inscribed in both Arabic and Persian. The peculiar structure of the mosque has been attributed to the Mughal emperor Akbar. The main prayer hall (jama masjid) of the mosque is considered to be one of the largest prayer halls in all of India. The mosque also features a number of domes, courtyards, and learning rooms. The Badi Masjid draws devotees from all over India and the subcontinent, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. The mosque is also an important tourist attraction in Jammu. The Badi Masjid of Jammu is a historic mosque located in Jammu city in the Indian union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Built in the Persian style of architecture, the mosque's main feature is its tall dome which can be seen from several kilometers away. The mosque also has five spires, a central courtyard, and a clock tower. It is believed to have been constructed around 1685-86 AD by Governor Saif Khan. It was damaged in 1947 due to communal riots between Hindus and Muslims, but was later rebuilt and renovated in the same year. The mosque has remained a prominent landmark of Jammu since then. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
