ut Vishnu Temple, Malayadipatti is a unique Vihara(monastery) and rock-cut temple located in the village of Malayadipatti, in the state of Tamil Nadu. This temple came into existence in the 8th century, during the reign of the medieval Chola Dynasty. The Vishnu temple is carved into the Malayadipatti Hill, 400 feet (120 m) above the sea level. It is a part of a complex of five rock-cut temples including one dedicated to Ganesha and the other four to various aspects of Lord Vishnu. The temple is also known as Vel Mel Malai. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is set in a 30-foot-long monolithic cave. It is one of the few temples in India where devotees can walk to the top of the temple and get a panoramic view of the forests and hills around. The temple is decorated with intricate sculptures and carvings, which include those of four-armed Lord Vishnu, his vahana (vehicle of transport) Narasimha (lion) and Garuda (eagle).
