The Badi Masjid in Bhubaneswar is one of the oldest mosques in India. It was built in 1530 by Sultan Sulaiman Khan Karrani of Bengal. The mosque is made up of a single large quadrangle, surrounding a two-storeyed verandah. The facade is simple with a symmetrical arrangement of arches. Each side is bordered with tall terracotta piers and the edges of the roof are decorated with terracotta kalasa or finials. Inside, there are several arches with a slender minaret on each corner.
