Overview:
hwar Temple is one of the oldest and holiest shrines of the Hindu religion located at the banks of River Ganges near Varanasi, India. This temple is of great significance as it enshrines Lord Shiva as the main deity and is believed to be the site of Daksha Yagna. It is believed that Lord Shiva was born at this kshetra by the grace of Lord Vishnu and it is also referred to as the Dakshin Kashi, the southern city of Shiva. History:
The temple consists of two principal shrines: the shrine of Lord Shiva and that of Goddess Parvati. The shrine of Lord Shiva is an exquisite structure of white marble, specialized with stone carvings and depicts a representation of Mount Kailash. Shiva is depicted in a devout sitting posture with his eyes closed in deep meditation while Goddess Parvati is depicted in a standing position with her graceful arms raised. The temple also houses four other shrines dedicated to the four Vedic gods namely Ganesha, Surya, Chandra and Vishnu.
