Brief History:
Badi Chaupar Masjid is a mosque located in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The architecture of this unique structure is believed to date back to Mughal period in India. This mosque was built by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1659 as an expansion of his father Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s built Moti Masjid at nearby Fatehpur Sikri. This mosque was constructed for the purpose of offering prayers by the Mughal officers and aristocrats visiting Jaipur at that time. It is constructed on a large platform of elevated ground and is crowned by a large dome. The beauty of the mosque lies in its intricate stone carvings, lattice work, delicate marble jalis, and exquisitely carved minarets. The Badi Chaupar Masjid, located in Jaipur, India, is an architectural masterpiece of the Mughal era. The mosque was built in the year 1727 AD by the Mughal ruler, Muhammad Shah, and is considered to be one of the most famous mosques in the city. The mosque has a grand entrance gate adorned with ornamentation, an inscription in the Urdu language, and two minarets. The interior of the mosque consists of a main Iwan (prayer hall) which is capped with three domes and flanked by two smaller prayer halls. The mosque has an intricate facade and ornamental features, including carved marble jalis, frescoes, glazed tile mosaics, and painted plaster decoration. The Badi Chaupar Masjid is an excellent example of the Mughal era's architectural legacy and stands as a testament to the religious tolerance of the era.
