St. Roch's Church was founded by Fr. Joseph Nicolas Noel, who wanted to establish a church and school in the city of New Orleans. Fr. Noel placed the project in the hands of the Redemptorists, who had recently arrived in America. Construction of the church began in 1876 and the parish was formally established in 1880. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.
