The Church of Our Lady was built in the early 13th century and completed in the late 15th century. It was originally built to house a statue of the Virgin Mary by the now-famous Czech sculptor and architect, Peter Parler. Construction of the church and its related buildings took over a century, and it was completed in the late-Gothic period of the 15th century. In 1303, the Bohemian King Wenceslas II declared the church a royal court church and it has since been maintained and patronized by the royal court.
