St. Anastasia, originally named St. Joseph’s Church, was founded in 1791 and declared a parish in 1805. History:

St. Anastasia was originally founded by French emigrants who had settled in Harford County in the 1780s. The parish was established as “St. Joseph’s Church” and later renamed “St. Anastasia’s Church” in 1805. This name was chosen to honor the martyr, St. Anastasia of Rome. The church stands on the original site of the French settlers’ small chapel, which was built in 1791. The current church structure was built in 1870 and has been preserved today for its traditional architecture and historic significance. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.

The Church of St. Anastasia is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest Catholic parish in Harford County. It is located in a rural area near Darlington, Maryland. The original chapel was 28 ft by 26 ft with a ceiling 16 ft high. The current structure was built in the Gothic-style and is 66 ft by 50 ft with a ceiling height of 54 ft.
