Brief History:
is a beautiful replica of the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid-e-Nabawi) of Medina. It is located in Southern Governorate, East of Riffa, near Sadad. It has become a much-loved destination for the Shia community of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The mosque is prominently visible from far away. It was built in 1980s by the famous architect Sheikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa. It has two minarets and a dome made of white marble. The structure is spread over an area of 12,000 sq-meters. It includes a three-storey administrative building, two separate entrances for men and women, a library, a multi-purpose hall, and the main prayer hall. The interior of the mosque is exquisitely decorated with Islamic calligraphy on the walls. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bahrain which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Sadad Mosque is located in the small village of Sadad in central Bahrain. The structure is made of local coral stone, while its roof is constructed with a timber frame and covered with red tiles. The rectangular prayer hall features an axial arrangement of five mihrabs. Each mihrab is decorated with high-relief, articulated floral and figural designs, which are typical of mosques of this period in Bahrain. The prayer hall is flanked by two vaulted rooms. Bathing facilities are located in a separate side wing. The mosque has two entrance doors – one in the west wall, leading to the prayer hall, and the other in the east wall, leading to the bathing area. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
