Brief History:
Hidd Mosque in Bahrain is one of the oldest mosques in the country, located on the island of Muharraq. The mosque is believed to have been built in the 16th century by Sheikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa, under the patronage of Sultan bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. It is a monument of Islamic heritage and is a rare example of Bahraini architecture. The mosque has a central courtyard with four entrances, a wooden ceiling and multicolored wooden door panels. Inside, there is a mihrab (niche in the wall indicating the direction of prayer) and a pulpit (lectern). The mosque also has a small library holding several ancient Islamic manuscripts. Hidd Mosque in Bahrain was built in the 15th century and is located in the eastern part of the capital city of Manama. The mosque is constructed in a traditional Islamic architectural style, with a large dome and minaret decorated with geometric designs. The mosque consists of a large central prayer hall, two lateral domed chambers, and an open courtyard surrounded by a long corridor leading to the main entrance. The interior of the mosque is characterized by its remarkable Islamic and Persian architectural features, which include the stucco mihrab arch framed in wood, intricately detailed stone inlays, colorful tilework, and a large central chandelier. The mosque is also known for its beautiful stained glass windows, which provide an enchanting display of natural light during prayer times. Visiting Hours:
The Hidd Mosque is open to visitors daily from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm. During these times, visitors may explore the mosque and partake of the spiritual atmosphere. Special tours can be booked for larger groups if requested in advance. Guests are welcome to explore the mosque, but should be aware that modesty is important here and that there is a strict dress code to be observed when visiting. Muslims are requested to dress conservatively and visitors of other faiths should also show respect to the religion by covering their legs and arms (non-Muslims are allowed inside the mosque).
