Brief History:
is the main and oldest mosque in Bahrain, located in the Riffa area. Built in the 16th century, it is said to be one of the oldest mosques in the country. Al-Mahmood Mosque was renovated numerous times and features an impressive architecture, with a beautiful minaret and sandstone walls. It is also known for its peaceful atmosphere, making it a popular prayer and meditation spot for locals and visitors alike. It is open to all visitors who follow the Islamic customs and dress code. The mosque also houses an Islamic library with rare copies of Quran. It also hosts a number of seminars and lectures by scholars from all over the world. Architecture:
The Al-Mahmood Mosque is a mosque in Bahrain that dates back to the 15th century. Architecturally, the mosque is built in the traditional Islamic style with intricate Islamic window and door designs, arches, and domes. The prayer hall features two minarets and the walls of the mosque are painted in white and blue, symbolizing the white colonial architecture of the time. Inside, the mosque has a central dome, four corner-domes, an outer patio, inner courtyards and a mihrab, a niche that points towards the direction of Mecca. The mosque is further adorned with many Islamic patterns and motifs and a wooden mihrab decorated with carved wood. The mosque has undergone many renovations and expansions over the past centuries, making it an iconic structure in Bahrain. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
The Al-Mahmood Mosque in Bahrain is open to visitors from 9am to 9pm on Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and from 4pm to 10pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. It is closed on Saturdays. best mosque in the world.
