History:
The Pir Omar Sultan Mosque is a historical and cultural monument located in Icheri Sheher, the Old Town area of Baku, Azerbaijan. Built in the 16th century, the mosque is Named after Pir Omar Sultan, a powerful figure in the Karabakh region during the Safavid period. It is believed to have been commissioned by Pir Omar Sultan himself and is one of the oldest mosques in Baku. The mosque was damaged during the Russo-Persian war in the early 19th century and much of the original structure was destroyed. However, the structure was partially restored in the early 20th century and continues to serve as a place of worship. In addition to the main praying area, the mosque features a separate section for women and is home to various artifacts and antiques.
