Brief History:
Saatly Central Mosque is located in the town of Saatly in the Republic of Azerbaijan and was built in the 18th century. According to historical sources, this mosque was built by the local traders and merchants of Saatly. It was designed in a traditional Azerbaijani style and has several interesting features, such as a two-tier dome and decorated mihrab. The mosque serves as a major centre of worship for the Muslim population of the region. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Saatly Central Mosque is a beautiful example of Azerbaijani architecture from the 19th century. The mosque is composed of a three-dome structure with a two-story entrance hall that faces the main square of the village. The main entrance is accessed by a wide, shallow flight of stairs. The majority of the mosque is covered with white plaster, trimmed with intricate designs. The interior of the mosque is decorated with colorful frescoes and stained glass windows that depict stories from Islamic mythology. The central hall has a large wooden pulpit where the imam delivers sermons, as well as two minarets that rise from the main building. The exterior of the mosque also features two small cupolas that sit atop the main building’s rooftops, providing a striking visual contrast to the white plaster. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
