The mosque is believed to have been built in the 15th century by Shirvanshah Farrukh Yassar. It is a two-storey building, decorated with murals and carved columns. Agsu Mosque is a historical mosque located in the town of Agsu in the administrative district of the Shamakhy rayon of Azerbaijan. It is a unique example of 18th century Azerbaijani architecture. The mosque combines elements from the Ottoman Empire and the Timurid Empire, and is an outstanding example of Azerbaijani architecture. The mosque was built in 1769 under the patronage of Mirza Huseyn, a nobleman and a local governor. The mosque is a single-domed structure, with a vast hall, the walls of which are faced with hewed stone. The façade of the building is decorated with a large portal with stucco details, topped with a khanjara, a multilayered roof, and a pointed dome. The interior hall of the mosque is lined with blue and gold tiles and decorated with intricate plaster stucco details. The interior is also adorned with inscriptions from the Quran and the pishtaq, a rectangular portal framed with openwork stucco decoration. The altar has been preserved in its original form, as well as the mihrab – the prayer niche which indicates the direction of Mecca and points to the direction of prayer.
