Brief History:

The Ismayilli Central Mosque is located in the city of Ismayilli, located in the north-western region of Azerbaijan. It was built in 1827, during the reign of the Russian Empire. The mosque was destroyed during World War I, and was rebuilt in the early 1950s. It currently houses almost 300 worshippers, and is open for Friday and daily prayers. The mosque is also used to host lectures by prominent Islamic scholars, and holds various cultural and religious events. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.

The Ismayilli Central Mosque is a historic Mosque in Ismayilli, Azerbaijan. It was built in 1876 by the local Armenian population. The original building was destroyed in the Soviet period and the current Mosque was reconstructed in 1987. The Mosque is an vernacular Revival style building, constructed mainly of brick and stone. It is a one-story building oriented towards Mecca, with a small porch in front supported by four decorative brick columns. The entrance is surmounted by a triangular arch topped by a crescent and two stars – symbols of the Islamic faith. The interior of the Mosque is also decorated with coloured tiles and multi-level plaster carvings on the walls. The Dome is painted in blue, a traditional colour for Islamic buildings in the region. It is one of the few surviving historical landmarks in the region, and one of the few Islamic edifices in Azerbaijan. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
